GAS SENSING SYSTEMS & TDLS
|
 |
OptoSniff-MPN, OptoSci's unique multipoint Tuneable Diode Laser Spectroscopy (TDLS) sensing system, continuously
measures gas concentration levels at multiple points distributed along a passive optical fibre network. The system
can routinely monitor for methane, carbon dioxide, water vapour, natural gas, and several other gases.
The sensors never need re-calibration, and a single control unit can monitor up to hundreds of points, with full
system update times of less than a second. OptoSniff-MPN offers continuous, multipoint gas sensing capability suitable
for safety, explosion risk, environmental, and emissions monitoring; this makes OptoSniff-MPN ideal for applications
in mines, tunnels and voids under buildings, landfill and brownfield sites, sewage and water treatment works, gas
and petroleum installations, industrial process monitoring and control, etc. |

Standard Features
General features of OptoSniff based systems are
- Constantly monitor hundreds of points over long (~10km) optical networks
- Sensor never needs re-calibration
- Full system calibration performed once at the central control unit (CCU)
- High gas sensitivity and wide measurement range
- Fast sensor response and rapid system update time (<1 sec)
- Single or multiple gases can be monitored with no gas cross-sensitivity
- Optical sensor network is intrinsically safe and immune to EMI
- All sensor data available at CCU
- Each sensor can tolerate over 90% signal loss
- Plug-in modules enable easy component replacement or system expansion
- Minimum maintenance requirement ensures low cost of ownership
Some Continuous Multipoint Monitoring Applications
- Safety monitoring for explosive methane build up throughout mine tunnels
- Detection of gas main and natural gas leaks along tunnels and in voids under buildings
- Constant perimeter monitoring of methane and carbon dioxide on landfill sites
- Monitoring for gas collection under and in buildings constructed on brownfield sites
- Multipoint methane / carbon dioxide / water vapour detection at gas and petroleum installations
- Methane detection at several points in water treatment and sewage processing plants
- Water vapour sensing for industrial process monitoring and control
- Applications requiring multipoint monitoring of gases such as: methane, carbon dioxide, water vapour, natural
gas, hydrogen fluoride, hydrogen chloride, acetylene, ammonia, etc.
